Resurrection 101 - When the HIStory is in the Making...

I could almost visualize the disciples with their mouths hanging open, staring at the sky where just moments ago Jesus disappeared from their sight. And they thought they'd already seen it all...

But they ain't seen nothin' yet.

They knew - they were told - that something big is coming.  Someone big.  Someone big enough to fill that gaping Son-of-God-shaped hole left with Jesus' departure.

The Holy Spirit.

The Holy Spirit???

The same Spirit who in the beginning was moving over the darkness of the formless void, over the surface of the deep. Genesis 1:2

The same Spirit who spoke to Noah, and Abram, and Moses, who moved the prophets and talked to the kings; the same Spirit who overshadowed the virgin from the house of David and caused her to give birth to her firstborn son.

That very same Spirit who created this amazing world out of nothing and rose Jesus from the dead, was coming to live in them...

In us...?!!!

They didn't know the whens.

They didn't know the hows. They could not explain the nuts and bolts, the whys and the wherefores...

All they knew was that they were empty vessels, waiting to be filled.

They were marvelously unsure of their own capacity to contain this incredible gift.  Thoroughly stripped of the last shred of self-reliance.  Scoured clean of their own goodness and righteousness through failure, betrayal, ignorance and sin. Convinced beyond a shadow of a doubt that if God could use them, He could use anyone.

Including you... and me?!!

There was nothing left for them to do except wait… and pray.
