Resurrection 101 - The Holy Spirit - No Secondary Deity

Jesus wasn't introducing some new God when He promised the Holy Spirit to His disciples. He was introducing them into the continuity of the presence and activity of the God who is the Spirit, who has been from the beginning.

The earth was without form, and void; and darkness was on the face of the deep. And the Spirit of God was hovering over the face of the waters. Genesis 1:2

The God whose coming to His people was announced by the kings and the prophets, all the way to John the Baptist:

I’m baptizing you here in the river, turning your old life in for a kingdom life. The real action comes next: the main character in this drama—compared to him I’m a mere stagehand—will ignite the kingdom life within you, a fire within you, the Holy Spirit within you, changing you from the inside out. Matthew 3:11

The God who came to us as a human baby:

The Holy Spirit will come upon you, the power of the Highest hover over you; therefore, the child you bring to birth will be called Holy, Son of God. Luke 1:35

The God who still actively seeks out true worshipers:

But the time is coming—it has, in fact, come—when what you’re called will not matter and where you go to worship will not matter. It’s who you are and the way you live that count before God. Your worship must engage your spirit in the pursuit of truth. That’s the kind of people the Father is out looking for: those who are simply and honestly themselves before him in their worship. God is sheer being itself—Spirit. Those who worship him must do it out of their very being, their spirits, their true selves, in adoration. John 4:23-24

The God explains all things to us:

It’s better for you that I leave. If I don’t leave, the Friend, (the Holy Spirit) won’t come. But if I go, I’ll send him to you. When he comes, he’ll expose the error of the godless world’s view of sin, righteousness, and judgment: He’ll show them that their refusal to believe in me is their basic sin; that righteousness comes from above, where I am with the Father, out of their sight and control; that judgment takes place as the ruler of this godless world is brought to trial and convicted. John 16:7-11

We must recognize that the value and the contribution our individual lives have for the eternal Kingdom of God is determined by the source of its power, its energy.  Either we are empowered by the Holy Spirit or we are not.

'Not by might nor by power, but by My Spirit,’ says the Lord of hosts. Zechariah 4:6
